2018 Unoaked Chardonnay
Aromas of crisp lemon cookies and nectarine. On the palate, light-bodied, layered, and soft-edged. Flavors include lime, baked golden and green apple, nectarine skin. Sweet fruit, pith and bright acid on the finish. Always best lightly chilled, and paired with light and lower-fat foods. And of course, always lovely by itself as an aperitif, paired with a sunset or a sunny afternoon.
2016 Barrel Fermented Chardonnay
Green/golden apple and spice aromatics. Soft, medium-weight palate, with layered flavors of tangy fruit, and spicy oak and apple peel on the finish. Our favorite pairings for this wine are salmon, Manchego cheese, white pizzas, especially with shrimp, crab cakes, chicken, turkey, and all the trimmings. This wine’s food pairing versatility and non-malolactic, acidic brightness make friends for it on both sides of the Chardonnay divide.
2017 Primitivo
Primitivo may be a “new” variety to many, but its roots go back hundreds of years to Croatia, where it originated, along with its more familiar genetic twin: Zinfandel. Zinfandel and Primitivo share common parentage, and are essentially synonymous, though Primitivo is associated with Puglia, Italy, where it is commonly grown, and Zinfandel with California.
Medium-deep, purple-ruby color. Fat, fragrant berry and cocoa on the nose. Accessible, full berry fruit, bright acid, soft tannins. Medium-bodied. A typical Hendry Primitivo: balanced, fruit-driven wine, with the round, berry-dominated palate that is characteristic of the Zinfandel family. The bright, jammy, spicy fruit of 2017 Primitivo lends itself to a wide array of pairings: roasted pork loin, turkey, pastas with Bolognese or bits of braised meat, or your next gorgeous charcuterie board.
2016 Blocks 7&22 Zinfandel
Initial aromas of tangy cherry and berry, spice and black tea. Elements of fruit, tannin and acid in balance on the lively palate. Bittersweet cocoa, baking cherries, blackberry jam, straw and spice among the flavors and aromas as the wine opens.
Pairing thoughts: seared red meat; a tender, grilled lamb chop; dry-rubbed barbecue of any kind (without too much sweet or heat); dark meat chicken cooked in red wine with mushrooms and herbs; pasta with a savory, meaty, reduced sauce. Balanced, firmly structured and versatile.
